Business Systems demistified | Dave Birchall.com

Market Samurai

Have you ever wondered why its so hard to rank with the search engines? I’m sure most people that would come to a blog on business technology would at some time or other have wondered what the big SEO companies biggest secrets are. For many people, its easy to get set up with a website these days but with out traffic its pointless and its a big problem for most online business owner. For the rest we are always trying to do better.

Whilst there is no magic bullet, there is a fundamental mistake that many people make not only in online businesses but in offline businesses too. When I tell you what it is, the answer will be familiar but my guess is that dispite knowing its importance, you still cut corners and try to kid yourself that its not really neccesary. Well the turning point for me was when I started being honest with myself and doing the hard yards with this important step and I have never looked back. It’s time to tell you what it is. The fundamental step that many business owners try to short cut is of course ‘market research.’

See I told you, you knew the answer but be honest how much time and energy have you given to knowing yout market and understanding the principles? I’ll test you. Ahem ,No cheating now. You at the back, put that text book away! Okay who can tell me off the top of their heads what their primary keywords are for their site and what is the process of establishing them?

Anyone? Anyone? How very disappointing. It seems we all know the importance of keyword research but very few people are systematic about the way they do it. Guess what, very few people make it in online business too. Could there be a relationship there? Well actually there is and it was proven via a fairly well known initiative by Ed Dale who took three people, each with identical resources and training material who set off to make their fortunes in the new frontier of ecommerce. Can you guess who won? Well I’ll leave that to you to work out.

Okay, enough of my ramblings now. Its time for some answers. If you’re looking to know how to conduct proper keyword research you can do no better that to look at Market Samurai. The product is the best keyword tool I’ve found so far but I’ll let you judge for yourself.

There are lots of keyword tools on the market (I’ve tried ost of them now) and even Google provides some great keyword tools free of charge but I like the convenience of being able to save my projects, tracking progress and having everything in one place. They do a free trial and even the free version is packed full of features.

Even if your not interested in the product, its worth having a look over there for their training material. Its good and free too which is my favourite combination. If I had to fault them, I would say that they possible need to condense some of what they have because there is so much there to get through. Never the less, the lessons are invaluable..

Do your self a favour, do some research

If you get stuck, as always, just ask.
